On Sunday April 26th, 2009, thousands of residents of the San Fernando Valley sat along side Van Nuys Blvd., ready for the 6 annual Panorama City/ Van Nuys Spring Parade. Parade watcher saw marching bands, Spanish horses, clowns, belly dancers, low rider cars and the list goes on. One parade watcher said "its so nice to see all these different types of people coming together to share this positive message of sobriety."
Rachel Cosmic founder, CEO and Director for the nonprofit organization called Soberlink, has created this event to promote community involvement, cultural awareness, and substance abuse prevention, violence free lifestyles. Soberlink works hard all year long, helping those who are recovering from substance abuse, and who face the hardships of daily life.
After the parade is over thousands of people are invited to visit the Sober Day LA festival held at the civic center where the walk/parade ends. The festival site has booths from local businesses and other nonprofit organizations. Some sponsors have many give-a-ways and show the community the benefits of their services and products.
The festival also has it's famous entertainment stage. At the music stage, city officials speak and groups are presented awards for their participation and support. Throughout the day, bands, belly dancers and folkclorico dancers entertain festival attendees. This year we are featuring the band SCARLETT.
Congratulations to Rachel Cosmic and all her volunteer support team. The entire activity and festival is supported and coordinated by volunteers. In addition we like to thank those city officials who make this event possible.
